The Cat That Acts Like a Dog

Mittens, my daughter's cat.

He is a very loud cat.
No I mean LOUD.
REALLY LOUD!
He cries when he is hungry, wants attention and
to go outside.

BUT kitty, you are an inside cat.
He still does not believe me.

So, he has taken matters into his own and lets himself out.

These are the door handles we have on the front and side storm doors.
He jumps up and unlatches the door and lets himself out.

It is not that we do not want him to be a happy outside cat.
We live on a slightly busy street that many an animal is found dead on the side.
AND
Our neighbors raise homing racing pigeons and it does not make for good neighbors to have to
go get the cat after he has killed prized pigeons.
Not that that has happened, I just don't want it to either.

However, we do not want to spend all summer with our doors closed, we do NOT have
air conditioning and the breeze through the windows and doors is needed to cool the house down.

So we decided to let Mittens, let himself out at his leisure while watching out for him.
So far he is being good and staying close to the house.

Funny thing, this morning after letting him out into the garage, I heard a noise.
I went to check it out, Mittens was trying to let himself IN the same way he gets OUT.

Smart cat.

Vintage Coffee Table

I found a neat old farm table and trunk at a local farm sale.

You may notice that YES THEY ARE BLUE.

I am planning on using them in the basement.

Not as blue is it.
First I sanded off all of the chippy paint.
Then I painted over the blue with a slightly aqua green color.
Then I stained it all with a gel stain.

You can see a little of the difference in color now.

Did you notice that I did not cover it in paint but tried to let the wood show through.

This trunk is great for storing extra blankets and pillows.

I'm loving my new table.
I love finding vintage pieces and reworking them until they are perfect.
Rather than going out and finding the perfect piece I make it perfect for me.

So, how do you like it?
Do you like how I only painted over the painted areas or do you think I should have covered the whole top?
I still have to have the legs trimmed down to coffee table height.

What are your plans for this weekend?
Me, weeds are calling my name.

I am sharing my vintage table with Debra from Common Ground for Vintage Inspired Friday, Cindy from My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday and French Country Cottage for Feathered Nest Friday.
And I would like to join a new party.
Thank you Jody from Rooted in Thyme for inviting me to join Simple & Sweet Fridays.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by.

The Beast is Back

I had to make a special trip and bring home the BEAST.

Several months ago we dropped off my husband's Lazy Boy at the upholsters.
Oh yeah it is back. More heavy sarcasm!

I picked a pretty cream fabric with design for the front and white denim for the sides and back.

I will be painting the base and the handle white this weekend.
Mr. M. is very happy to have his chair back.  He agreed to the fabric choices so he could keep his chair.
I will agree that it is very comfortable and it lasted through three children being fed and rocked in the chair.
BUT
I still HATE this chair.
It takes up so much room.
Put it in the basement you say, well I did think of that too, but I kind of whited up that room too.
Poor Mr. M. - that is what my girl Sara is saying, I just know it.
So the chair stays upstairs and I am ok with that.
For now!

I do love the ruffle at the bottom.

To take away some of my frustration, I decided to visit a few fun shops.
I was able to find a few treasures, I usually am lucky like that.

A good bounty for a great price.

Seriously, can anyone have too much ironstone.

This little guy looks great in the kitchen.

A new chippy wood shelf for the basement, I am not sure if the blue is staying yet.

This little tool holder is going to be used for silverware and necessities for having dinner on the deck.
Overall I had a good day out.

Now the chair is home and we have happy husband.
Funny thing is, he is the one throwing telling the kids to stay away from his chair with their dirty hands.

So, how about you, do you have one of these chairs to decorate around?

Better Than Just a Canister

It seems that one of my posts Better than a Bread Box is very popular according to my stats.
I thought I would show you what I made this past weekend to go along with my Bread Box.

Because they are simply Better Than Just a Canister!

TA DA!

I found these canisters at a local antique shop last week.
Of course they did not have the french script.
Graphics Fairy to the rescue.

I forgot how I did the project with the bread box the first time.
I had to go back through my old posts to find the original link to Heaven's Walk.
Thanks Laurie for sharing your tips with us.
This is really a simple project to do and it has such dramatic results.

If I hadn't told you, you would never had known that I did not buy all of  these at the same time.

I am sharing my new Better Than Just a Canister
with Kathleen from Faded Charm for White Wednesday.
And a new link party
with Angie from Knick of Time  for Knick of Time Tuesday Vintage Style.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out all those wonderful WHITES and VINTAGE.

I'm Late, I'm Late

I must say that many times I find myself saying that.
So many wonderful link parties that I have missed or I am so dang late for I feel frazzled.

I am still trying to become that organized person that I need to be to juggle all of the different jobs I have as MOM, WIFE, SISTER, CREDIT UNION TELLER, DOMESTIC CLEANER, FOOD PREPARATION SPECIALIST, PERSONAL SHOPPER, FURNITURE MOVER, DESIGNER, TEACHER, CHAUFFEUR, NURSE, HANDY MAN AND NOW...............
BASEBALL FANATIC.

Those of you who know me,
know that from Spring til the end of Summer,
I spend several days a week at baseball.

If you don't know me yet, let me tell you a secrete.
I HATE BASEBALL!

Oh and a wonderful thing happened this year. (HEAVY SARCASM)
Baseball went from 3 days a week to 4 days, SHOOT ME NOW.

I know right now, my girl Sara read this and is saying "poor Alaina."

Anyway, enough about sports, back to my missed parties.
I know I am not an organized person, I'm creative, artistic but NOT ORGANIZED!

So, I am almost done trying to be organized, only a few more rooms to clean out and I will
revert back to my creative side.

Now, that doesn't mean I have been uncreative, oh no, just that I have not had the time to share it with you.
Oh, I have been painting, sewing and gardening.

I wanted to join Nesting Place for her Plant Party yesterday, I am just a little late though.
But, guess who decided to play with her blog Sunday night?
ME!
Oh yeah, and now I can't find my blog list.
So if you were a regular on my sidebar and you don't see your name, let me know and I will add you back to my list.

See this wonderful green and white combination.
The little sister and I went plant shopping.
We didn't get much because SNOW was expected this week.

More plants just waiting to be potted up.
Don't you just love my new garden urn, gotta love TJMaxx.

These beauties were on sale at Home Depot, an after Easter sale that I gladly took several off their hands.

I love white hydrangeas, I am hoping to re-pot these in my large planters for the deck this year.

Isn't he a cutie, some kind of succulent.

Who says you can't bring the outdoor plants in.
This is Irish moss.

My little corner in the office gets lots of sunlight and a perfect place for plants.

I have a few more posts started so that I can join more fun parties, I can update you with my basement progress,  and share some new treasures with you.
I hope you are all having a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by, make sure to visit the Nester too.

Easter Breakfast

In our home we are lucky because Mr. M. makes breakfast for us every weekend.
If you ask my youngest son, he would ask for circle things (pancakes).
My two older children loves waffles, as do I.
He does make an awesome omelet too.

In anticipation of Easter Breakfast I thought I would get the dinning room table ready.

Pink tulips and a tree branch decorated with little Easter cards.

The kids don't know it but those are real chocolate bunnies.
Don't worry they won't go to waste.
Mr. M. will use them for making chocolate chunk chocolate cookies.

I think this table is going to make the breakfast taste even better.

Little cards I made from copies of Easter cards found on the Internet.

Each plate has a copy of a vintage Easter post card and a fuzzy chick or duckie.

One of two vintage looking repro Easter decorations.

A once filled jar of chocolate eggs.
Mr. M. would like me to tell you that it was all the kids,
but,
this man has a mean sweet tooth.

A view in the mirror.

This corner of the dinning room has one of my favorite finds,
an iron tea cart filled with assorted whites.

A little garden planter just waiting for some Spring plantings.

I hope you enjoyed our Easter table.
I am sharing my Easter with Debra from Common Ground for Vintage Easter Inspiration.

Happy Easter and have a wonderful weekend!
