Here Is The Trouble Area

I am having difficulty trying to get the arm connected to the back and seat. I have circled the area. When it is inside out they all come together in like a Y formation and I do not know what two to sew together first.  Each time I try to conect one side I seem to sew over the other.  I am afraid to cut, because I may not be able to fix it then.

  3. Sorry I am at the store and had to help a customer....it is really hard to tell because i cant feel it you know..i just know I also had a terrible time with mine too.

mm i would put it on right side up and then take my hand run it between the chair and the fabric. go put your hand where the area is that is giving you a problem...try to grab the area from underneathe and make it look like you want, while holding it. DON'T LET GO...try to pull off the cover with the other arm while still holding the piece you want to sew. dont move your fingers, now take it to the sewing machine and just sew where your fingers have made the the crease. hold back all the other areas of fabric away from you seam line...sew a little and then put it back on right side up and see if you have to take it in a little more here or there....does that make sense?

  5. Despite my large stash of fabrics I'm hoarding, oops I meant planning to use, I don't sew well. I told hubby this morning I wanted to make slip covers for two chairs I bought at an estate sale. He laughed and told me to to take them to a professional, have them covered in the fabric I already bought, then have them make slip covers in red and in yellow for when I get moody. I LOVE that man!

  10. Right where I left it, laying on the offending chair. I had to take a break to make dinner, and now I think we are going baseball sneaker shopping. Talk to everyone later.

  11. I think if my future SIL didn't have a father who is one of the few upholterer's in our area Hubby would have said something more like, "is the dinning table going to be covered in fabric for 3 months again?" He's assuming I'll get an "almost family" deal!

  12. WHAT??? You've only been on blogger since last month??? You have as many followers as I do! What is wrong with me? Why don't people like me???

I'm such a blooser. Stop hanging out with me IMMEDIATELY...that goes for Dawn and Dingle too. Pass it on, will ya?

  13. Why do I get called a dingle? Ah as soon as I met all my new fun friends I stopped worrying about followers. This is way too much fun.

  14. Blossom, are you going to explain what a dingle berry is? You started it.

  15. Oh bull ****, you know it. It is not the number of followers (friends) you have, it is the quality! And you definately have quality followers.

  16. This seam right here is the exact reason I have not, and probably won't ever, have a go at making a slip-cover. Way easier just to upholster it if you ask me.
I just saw "Dingle's" thumbnail for her new post in your blog roll and I am too afraid to go there!

  19. I don't recall ever putting the word Dingle and Berries together...if that is where your mind goes Alaina...how can I help it?

Y'all are right of course! I actually have another EXTREMELY INSIGHTFUL post coming on followers and comments that will BLOW YOUR MINDS actually it won't, not at all.

I am so tickled pink with my followers/commenters I can not tell you...I feel BIG TIME, being for real here...of course I am pretty easily impressed.

  20. Ya right, word association did not come to mind when you threw those words out there blah.

Bring it on, I have been working on my SPECIALLY NAMED BLOG DAYS, Melissa, to drive you crazy.

  21. I was roaring, ok, roaring out loud at your post! This is exactly where my wing chair lay with the partially finished slip cover!!!

I cannot locate a single site that explains in English and not seamstress lingo how to sew this spot.

Have you been to Angie's site at threadneedle? I'm going to ask her how to sew this area.

Also, and I haven't done this yet, I happened to see in a mag in the store the other day how to pin the entire thing RIGHT SIDE up first - so that it is easier to see where the sewing should be. If I have time today I'm going to do that. I'll email ya afterwards, k? and let you know what happened!!

  22. And I'm also going to do what Cranberry Cottage suggested? I feel like I'm on a mission now!

If you get yours done can you tell me how you did it, in case you get it done before me....(great grammar there, eh?)

  23. I'll try to think of an easy way to show you this. I agree to ask Angie. She is the best and so professional. It's late but I'll work on it tomarrow. Let me know if Angie helps.

  24. Hi, and thanks for stopping by, hopefully I can help you with this.

    First, a few questions:

    1) is there a gap between area A & B that you can stick you hand? If so, leave about 2-3" more on those areas so you can shove it in there.

If you have already cut and didn't leave any extra, it will be ok. Just try and sew with a smaller seam allowance so that it will have some extra ease.

Or, you can sew on an extra strip that can be tucked in.

    2) The area between B&C and A&C is curved. Starting about halfway between the seat and the arm (along the BC line) I leave unstitched. In this area I leave an extra long tail to tuck into that crevice. Since you have already cut your fabric, you can stitch an extra piece in here.

The reason I leave it unstitched is because the inside back (A) and the seat (C) have opposing curves and if you stitch them together, they will fight each other.

There is another option, it is more difficult, but if you wish I can try and explain it.

Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps. If not, please feel free to call my at my studio 727-328-1431.
