I Can NOT Idle

I do not know about other creative people, but myself, I can not just SIT for very long.  I read a few magazine pages and an idea comes.  I'm up and off to look in my stash of, fabric, paint, objects.  It does not matter, just something new to do.  Lately I have been a mad woman working on one new project after another.  I have not been this creative in a long time.

In some ways it is very good, GOOD, and in some ways it is very bad, BAD.  I have come up with a lot of new creations to take to the flea market, but every room has evidence that I have been working in it.  The kitchen table is filled with candles and tags of every sort.  There are frames drying on the kitchen table.  The dinning room is full of fabric scraps and chairs waiting to be reupholstered.  The basement has fabric all over, waiting for me to decide where I might need some.  The garage is a disaster zone, 1/2 painted furniture waiting for a second or third coat.  You can not even walk in the shed, it is being dismantled of all the pretty treasures I am going to sell in the flea market.  My office, there is only enough room to get to the computer keyboard.  AHHHHHHH

Does anyone else's creativity do this to them.  There are many projects that I have finished and they just have to be packed away.  I have a tendency to do multiple projects at a time, my thinking is, if one piece is drying, why do nothing or CLEAN the house, when I could be painting another piece of furniture.

Today, in between finishing all of my different projects I will show you a few that have been or are almost finished.

Papered cork boards and button and shell pins.  The idea for the papered cork board I got from seeing a sneak peek at Tattered and Timeless wall panel, I did not use whole pages but rather parts of them.  I can't wait to see her booth, it is going to be amazing.

Chalk boards in vintage frames.  This idea came after seeing them at My Sweet Savannah, I thought, hey I have tons of vintage frames.  Out came the paint, then I raided my brother's stash of extra wood.  A perfect fit.  So far I have made five, the extra one is for MOI!

Dressers, mirrors, shelves, OH MY!  Most of these just need a touch up and they are done

I am SO ready for this flea market to be here.  I don't know if my family I can handle another two weeks of being creative.  I just hope for all the hard work that it turns out to be a wonderful day.  Thanks for stopping by, I'm off to paint something, or glue, or sew.  Oh the fun I will be having.

  1. All of these look like really fun projects! I love the mirrors and furniture.
I'm the exact same way! My husband is so sweet to put up with me and all of my excuses for the house looking like a storage area full of projects that "I promise to finish before I bring in anything else." He even said "I'll try to organize the garage so you'll have some more room."
    I can't sit idle either!

  2. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me, Alaina! I love your new creations! I just know they'll do well at the flea market. :) And, yes, my house gets just as crazy messy when I'm trying to get creative (lol). ;o)
I also wanted to let you know that I finally posted about the award today. Thanks again my friend!

  3. I have a frame on a mirror I want to paint red, but waiting for drier and cooler temperatures. I SO cannot sit still! Never been able to get much accomplished without getting up every few minutes as my mind darts from one thing to another like a butterfly.

  4. Yes, I can relate to this! I get to the stage where I feel physically ill because every room in the house has something that needs finishing and there's just stuff everywhere.
You have so many lovely projects on the go. Good for you.

  8. I can completely understand, only I can't use a flea market as being my excuse. I must always have at least two projects going at any given time. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

  12. ALAINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG across miles and states and provinces. YOu are my sister in everyway. That is exactly, exactly how I operate!! Finally to know somebody else leaves a huge mess behind everywhere she goes...creating in the process.

My hubby always gives me a hard time, especially when the mess is in "HIS" workshop....hello?? I think I use it more than him.

I can just picture your mess. LOL

Thanks for the award friend, I appreciate it, but I don't have the time to sit here and pass it around to others..blessing to you and your show.

  13. Alaina,
We are on the same page. I just made up 3 vintage framed chalkboards. With the paint in my hands it's a wonder I didn't paint my husband. I'm a creative mad woman! Can't wait girlfriend. Don't read anymore magazines.

  14. Alaina,

Wow your mother seems to have many daughters she knows nothing about as so many of us are exactly like you. Goodness I get up in the middle of the night with an idea and run downstairs to sketch it out before I forget. I have a mess everywhere. I am working so hard on filling my booth for the September 1st opening that I have all the to-do furniture on the screen porch..because it is so hot and muggy it then comes inside after being sanded and gets painted and distressed then stacked in the dining room till delivery to the booth. Then don't get me started on all the fabric and smalls junk all over trying to get done. I am like you- I start one and while it is drying I get onto another.

I love your memo boards and am so flattered that someone took inspiration from me. Thanks for telling others about my booth- I too can't wait for it to be done.
Well back to work for me too.
Wish I was closer so I could visit your flea market...maybe some day.

  15. You go girl!!!
Yep, my husband cringes everytime I'm looking in a Somerset Studio and the like. he knows it won't be long before I'm making a mess somewhere. His pet peeve is when I paint in the driveway and I don't use a tarp. I just think it's concrete...he thinks it's to be spotless concrete.LOL!
    Good luck at the flea!
Thank you for your sweet message.
    hugs
