How Many is TOO Many?

I was cleaning out my linen cupboard and discovered I have 7 white tablecloths in there.

That made me wonder, how many is too many?

This is my special linen closet full of my WHITE linens.
I have been holding on to these linens to make slipcovers and pillows.

I have lost count on the pillow cases, napkins and table runners.

I just love the crocheted edged pillowcases.

I have a hard time passing up a monogram, even if it is not mine.

I have used vintage linens to  make cover the lampshades and I love to embellish them with buttons and paper roses.

How about you, do you have a stack of favorite linens that you can not seem to part with?

What do you save them for?

I hope you are having a wonderful day today!

It's All in the Cups

Good morning
Good morning
Good morning to you!

I thought I would show you some of my favorite tea cups I found while cleaning the other day.

Speaking of favorites, I was picked, well not me, but my cabinets were picked by Marian from Miss Mustard Seed for her Furniture Feature Friday-Favorites yesterday, you can read it here.

The only credit I can take for the cabinets is that I bought them and took the pictures.  A friend of mine, an amazing craftsman made all of the cabinets.  He does an incredible job with his painting to make a piece of furniture look authentically old.

This is one of the signs he painted.

I am off to continue working on cleaning out the office, but before I go, if you have not signed up for my giveaway, a chance to win a gift certificate for CSN stores then please go here.  The giveaway ends on February 28th.

CSN Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED!

A few months back I won a CSN giveaway and I bought this amazing clock with my gift certificate!

Well, now it's YOUR TURN!

Last week while I was supposed to be cleaning my office or "blog room," I was actually checking out some blogs for some decorating ideas.  Yeah, that's it, I was doing research.
Well, anyway, I got distracted and ended up on CSN in search of some OFFICE FURNITURE .

A few of these bookcases to store some of my craft supplies and books.

Don't you just love this desk!  I don't need one, but I just could not resist showing this beauty.
It is called The Bag Lady's Recipe Writing Desk-Paula Deen Home, I found it in the desk section at CSN.
I think I might be able to write up some tasty posts sitting at this desk.  Just look at those adorable wheels!

I think they knew I was visiting, because soon after I received an email with an offer for me to have a GIVEAWAY!

Well, "of course" I said.

So now you have a chance to WIN $40.00 gift certificate for CSN.

Now, be honest, could your office use a little picking up or are you stuffing it ALL in the CLOSET?
You KNOW who you are!

I am going to make it as easy as possible for you.

For the 1st chance to enter, stop by CSN office furniture and then come back and tell me if you prefer open shelving or bookcases.

For a 2nd chance to enter, leave a comment letting me know; is your office or blogging area neat or is it in need of some tidying.

And, finally for a 3rd chance to win, tell your friends, heck, tell everyone, let me know that you posted about my giveaway on your blog.

The giveaway will end at my Midnight February 28, 2011.

Good luck and have a great day!

Now I guess I better get back to cleaning!

For the Love of Cabinets

Happy Friday!

I just can not believe how fast the weeks are speeding by.
It will be spring in no time.
The snow is taking its' time melting so to fill the time until I can work in my gardens, I have been shopping.

I found a new cupboard, and it is made by the same person whom made several cabinets I already own.

This is the one I have in my kitchen.
To think that he made this one using a window and some extra wood he had in his shop.

I just love the little details!

I store some of my favorites, buttons, white ironstone and other trinkets.

This cabinet is a small corner cabinet that I have hanging in my living room.

I also have this one in the living room.

My kids love to hide their toys inside.
Sometimes I find dried out play dough figures.

On one of my shopping trips I found a new cabinet, and it is made by the same person as the cabinets above.

This is the cabinet I would like to buy, the only thing holding me back is where to put it.
We all know the saying "if you love it, then buy it and find a spot for it later."
Or is that just something I say to myself?

I received a wonderful email that said I was going to be featured.
Happy dance!

Debra from Common Ground is featuring my button heart, thank you so much Debra.

I am joining Debra for Vintage Inspiration Friday

Cindy from My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday.

Marian from Miss Mustard Seed's for Furniture feature Friday.

Make sure to take some time and pop over and visit these wonderful bloggers, you won't be disappointed.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

As for me!
 (cue evil laugh.....)
Mr. M. is out of town for the weekend and I think I need to paint the basement.
I have never tried horizontal stripes.

What?
Tell me you don't get into some trouble when your husbands go out of town!

A Day of LOVE!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today is a day of LOVE and ROMANCE!

Pink hearts
Red roses

 CHOCOLATE

As some of you already know, today is very special to me.

It is my WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!

13!

Yes, Mr. M. and I were married 13 years ago today.

It was a yucky snowy day, cold and miserable.

We were happy, oh so happy, to be finally be able to be together forever!

I, honestly tried to get him to elope, but he resisted.
You see, at the time we were planning our wedding, we were also in the process of building our DREAM HOME.

STRESS!

Those of you who have done either or both know how much time and energy it takes, try doing both at the same time, and we both had full time, demanding jobs.

Each year we sit and reminisce about that day and all that happened in the days that lead up to THE DAY.

I will share a funny story.

First I have to tell you that I was living with my parents before I was married, on the farm.
Well, as has happened many times before, the cows got out.
Normally, my father would have been outside puttering around in one of the barns, but seeing as we were all inside preparing for the BIG DAY, the cows had wandered farther than usual.

In fact, they had crossed the road.

What did we do?  Well, of course we donned our boots and ran after them!
Remember, this is February in BUFFALO and the weather was not at its' most pleasant.
I can still remember standing in the field laughing and talking to my little sister while my father yelled at us about what we should be doing.  I remember her saying "so, did you ever think you would be chasing cows on your wedding day?"  "Nope!"
We spent a good hour herding the cows back home into the barns.

So now we will always have a funny story to tell our children when they ask about our wedding.

The ceremony was beautiful!
We will never forget
THE SHOES!

It seems that my brother-in-law got a hold of the groom's shoes and wrote
YES DEAR
on the bottom of his shoes in white paint.

We did not find out until during the ceremony and we were on our knees for prayer.

LAUGHTER
rang through the church!

I think it is a good way to start a marriage,
lots of laughter.

At our reception I will always remember how wonderful our wedding cake was.  My aunt made our cake as a wedding gift.  I had picked out the design, white roses, it was to be covered in white roses.  It was just as beautiful as I had pictured it in my mind.  I must also mention my dress, it too was beautiful, my mother made it by hand, each stitch, right up until I walked down the hallway to go down the aisle.  It was some cause of the stress I was under.  In the final moments though it was beautiful and it still hangs in my closet as a reminder of my mother.

We danced and danced most of the night.
Even more special, he sang.
My husband sang our wedding song to me while we danced.
Singing to me is something he has done since the day we met and still does.

Our children think it is funny when daddy sings and dances with mommy in the kitchen, but to us it is
ROMANCE!

You might think that being married on Valentine's Day makes our anniversary even more special.
BUT
It's not, I would rather be told and shown every day that I am loved, than to receive gifts on one day.
I told a friend that to me romance is not flowers and candy.

Romance is knowing, knowing what makes the love of your life-laugh.
It is cooking dinner when the other is late at work.
It is letting them sleep-even if it means you sleep on the couch.
It is being courteous, kind, loving even when you don't feel like it at the moment.
It is making sure to give a kiss even when you are mad.
It is the details that matter, because in the end they are what you remember.

He is my cowboy
my baseball player
my handyman
my fireman

MY EVERYTHING!

I hope you have a wonderful day too!

Simple Ways

Our anniversary happens to fall on the biggest day the whole world celebrates love and romance.

We tend to keep it low key.

I am not much of a jewelery person so he doesn't buy me jewels.
As for flowers, we both would rather it be a plant that I can put into the ground and it is way too early for that.  The chocolates, he lets me buy for the kids and we sneak a few.

So, how do we show our love?

Simple ways.

XOXO                                             XOXO

Always a kiss before                            we leave each other.

A look across the room that lets you know exactly what he means.

Smooching in the closet where the kids can't find mom and dad.

Brushing snow off both cars when he is leaving for work.

Letting me paint yet ANOTHER room white.

Love notes in the lunch box, just because.

Random acts of showing love.

Never forgetting to say

I LOVE

YOU!

I also wanted to say thank you for all the kind words for my previous posts.
As for my pillows, only the red heart is a pillow, the other two are paper mache hearts that are one sided.  The button heart I painted the heart white and hot glued lots and lots of buttons on.  I have had the hearts many years and I think I originally bought them at a craft store.

Thanks for stopping by.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Valentine Inspirations

I have taken a break from cleaning this week to blog, HAHAHAHA, who am I kidding, I can't remember the last time I cleaned, well, almost, the laundry was done yesterday.

It is just that I actually had an idea of what I wanted to post about this week.
We all know what special day is coming up next week!

No, not Valentine's Day, my anniversary, hehe, I am in a good mood, yes Valentine's Day too.
So to join in on one of my favorite parties.
 Let's celebrate VINTAGE style.

I am joining Debra from Common Ground for Vintage Inspiration Friday, Vintage Valentine's Party.

I do not have many Valentine's decorations around my home.

I have a few hearts that I adore, some that I have made using vintage buttons and tissue paper.

I was also lucky to find a heart tree at a local shop.

Thank you for stopping by.
I hope you visit Debra at Common Ground and all the wonderful Vintage Inspirations.

Don't forget to visit Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday too!

Birthday Boy

Today is Mr. M.'s birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LOVE!

He is 39 today.

He of course would add that he is STILL younger than me, even though my birthday is not until May.

We made his favorite dirt cake and he will probably be spending the evening at home with us relaxing.

I hope you have a wonderful day too!

I can't wait to eat CAKE!

Put Out The Fire

My Fireman!

Last night Mr. M. and I went to an Installation party at the fire hall where my husband is a volunteer fireman.
This fire company has been in existence 90 years.

Lots of fun, no curfew because the kids slept over at grandma's.
I'm not too sure if that was a good thing or not.
As my good friend Sara would say, I was overserved!

Mr. M. has been a fireman for 18 years and we enjoy going to this event each year.
It gives us a chance to dress up (meaning I get an excuse to shop).

We eat, drink, dance and celebrate!

The Chief, President, Officers and new members are installed for the new year.
They honor past Chiefs, Presidents and members who have retired their fireman number in this life.

Every year a Fireman of the Year is chosen.
This year the fireman chosen has been an active fireman for 70 years, amazing, and he is also a WWII war veteran.

I am so proud of my fireman!
I am proud of them ALL!

How about you.
Do you have any volunteer firemen in your families or friends?

It's Story Time

At least that is what my son says.

Mom, I can use it to do my stories.

Ah, NO!

I have been on the hunt for these for a few years and there is no way I am letting my kids play with it.

I found this neat little typewriter while out antiquing with my daughter last Saturday.
You would have thought I had won the lottery with how excited I was.
Not only is it small, but it also folds in half, and it fits into the black case on the shelf above the typewriter.

I have been in a decorating funk so for now the type writer is just sitting in the corner while I wait for inspiration.  I think I need to paint, that usually helps me get out of my winter funk.

So, I guess today I will put on my coat and see what I can find to paint in the garage, I know I have a few extras there.

How are YOU doing?
Did you get caught in the winter storm?
