The Colorful Cow

MOO!

I saw pictures of this cow in several magazines.
I had even seen it in a catalog.
I was drawn to the colors.

Then one day I happened upon the painting in Kirklands.

I had been saving a gift card I was given for Christmas.
And, I had a coupon on my phone.
The timing was perfect.
Done.
She is mine.

Until the painting does not fit into my SUV.
I took it back to the store.
Not to return it, but to hold for later.

I told my husband I needed the truck.
Did Mr. M. want me to pick it up myself or did he want to come.

He came.
He did not like the painting.
He wanted to know if I was joking.
In fact, there was another woman wanting to buy the painting too.
He was just about to ask the sales person if they had actually sold any,
when he witnessed two being sold within minutes.
 He was dumbfounded.

But
 he said
 if you love it,
 then I love it,
I want to you to be happy.

Perfect colors for Spring and Summer.

As you can see, it is a huge painting.
I have not picked the permanent placement yet.
For now I like to see her when I during the day when I walk through the hallway.

I have to tell you a funny story about the picture.
As I said earlier, Mr. M. really didn't like it, but he knew I did.
The Monday after I bought the painting we went to see the new movie;
The Longest Ride.

We both really liked the movie.
I don't want to give the story away,
but there are two love stories in this movie.
If you have seen it, you will understand.
There is a line in the movie
when the husband says something to his wife about a painting.

After seeing the movie, I looked at Mr. M. and said "we're keeping the cow aren't we?"  He said "if you love it, then I love it."

The cow is still in the hallway.

Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

A New French Desk

New French desk for the office.

I had been looking and looking for the perfect desk for our office.
The look has stopped.
I found it.
At my favorite place, of course, Sally!

Great bones but just needed a paint job.

Much better.
I taped off all of the white areas and spray painted the blue.
I like how spray paint gets in all of the nooks and crannies and does not cover up detail.
I did get a little on the top of the desk, oops, that can happen when you don't tape everything.

I decided to sand the top and restain it with a mahogony gel stain.
When it was dry I waxed it with a dark paste wax.
My oldest son was my furniture mover.
First we had to get the large table out of the office and replace it with the desk.
Although we have less space on top of the desk, I now have drawers to put all the little things just seem to accumulate on top.

I love all the drawers.
And those handles-perfect!

Except the one drawer on top, for some reason it did not take to the spray paint.
I have to sand it and try again.

The drawer has been painted several times and I am waiting for it to dry.
Then I can wax it.

This is my new office view from the hallway.
As comfy as that chair is, I think it may need a change.

I just love my new desk and how the colors turned out.
I think it goes well with the colors in the rug.

This cabinet at Miss Mustard Seed was my inspiration.
Don't you just love it.
She has a way with furniture.

I have a cabinet almost like this in black.
I just might have to rethink my color choice.

I am glad to have at least one project almost done.
Now I have to finish the weeding and then start mulching all the beds.
That should keep me busy for the next few weeks.

And you, have you found any treasures lately?

I am joining French Country Cottage for Feathered Nest Friday.
Courtney featured my Spring house post from last week.
Thank you to all who are visiting.

Settee For The Master Bedroom

My birthday is coming up in couple of weeks.
So I started looking for a treasure from my husband.
Remember, I am the one who finds the best gifts.
A - I know what style I like.
B - I like to shop and he does not.
C - Why not?

How could I not love it.
And I was able to get the cashier to mark it down.
Did you notice the chair in the next to the settee?
That is another chair I have waiting for time to reupholster.
It too has many of the same details.

Wonderful white fabric just waiting to be made into slipcovers.
So much to do, so little time.

Do you want to see what it will kind of look like?

The details of this chair almost match.
I have to decide, do I like it better with the wood or do I prefer the white.

I will be using the same off white linen fabric.

This weekend I was able to get about 1/4 done on removing the old fabric.
So many tacks to remove.
After spending time with the settee, I think I will go ahead and paint it.

I was also able to weed a couple of gardens in between the rain, and you?
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

The New Laundry Room

Until we built the addition and added a laundry room.
Laundry was done in the basement.

Now it is in the master bedroom.

So far, it is a good start.

The vintage cabinet was in the basement waiting for the perfect spot.

I have been compiling pictures of how I wanted the room to look.

I am loving the stripes on the wall.
I am thinking of horizontal, but more like a grain sack inspired look in light blue.

I think I have some of my son's blue paint left over that will work perfectly.

There's that color again, but it is just paint and easy to cover if I change my mind.

This is basically how small the laundry room is.
I did not want it to be huge, wasted space to me.

I do plan on adding shelves on the side of the cabinet for plenty of storage for necessities.

I am still looking for a shelf and hooks for the side wall.
They can not protrude too much that we hit our heads.

I also plan to hang the vintage ironing board in the room too.

Wall words to inspire.

It does make it easier to do a quick load of wash while getting ready for work.
I simply fold on the bed and the kids come and get their piles to put away.

I love that the new laundry room is not all the way in the basement.
Although, we do miss the days when we could just open the basement door and toss the dirty laundry down.

Today it is not even 8:00 and 65 degrees already.
I am not thinking about laundry on such a beautiful day.

I hope Spring has arrived for you too!

The Man Cave

The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

We have one layer of drywall on the walls of the garage (man cave).
It is a huge 4 car garage and we are doing the work ourselves.
The hardest part is the ceiling because they are almost 12 high.
We still have 44 more sheets to hang.
But.
We are half way done.

I have started thinking of what colors I am going to paint the garage.

Of course I am!

Don't worry though, I plan on asking Mr. M. what color he would like first.
Although he does threaten to use every color from the EXTRA selection I have in the basement. Ha ha.

Mr. M. is a huge FORD man.

I would love to paint him a sign on one of the walls.

In fact I love all of these signs.

Some artwork would look nice too.

I am thinking of a nice light grey with the Ford blue in a couple of vertical stripes.

colors found at Home Depot

He even said I can paint the floor if I do it with some nonslip paint.

I want to include some of Mr. M.'s fireman plaques and extra gear, along with old baseball jerseys too.
I want him to know how much we appreciate and love him for all that he does for us.
This is where he is king.
As long as I get to use his tools too.

He has also been on the look out for an old Ford truck for us to work on together.
For the future, for when the house is done.

We both have the ability to see great potential in old beat up things.
And we know that paint can really make a difference.

The sooner we can get the garage done, then we can move up to the master bedroom.
Busy, busy, busy.

And how about you?
How is your summer going?

Painted Rug Progress

I bought the paint and brushes.
I traced the design on the floor.
I tested some colors.

Thank goodness my daughter started helping me trace some of this.
I was starting to think it would never end.
Oh yeah, I still have to paint it ALL!!!
What was I thinking?

I am using lots of bright fun colors.
This is the hallway that leads to the bedrooms and one place to be more colorful with design.

You may have noticed there are lots of details in the design.
I am hoping I can make it look as good on the floor as it does in my head.

You don't know how many times I called to my husband to see if I should continue or not.
Was I crazy to do this...yes.
It took me several days to get the design traced on the floor.
Let me tell you, you can only sit on a hard wood floor doing this before your butt and hand start hurting.

Mr. M. kept saying "looks great, keep going, you can't stop now."
Mmmmm.....this was all said from the comfort of the living room chair....downstairs.
I am going to finish it.
And guess what?
If I don't like it.....yep, just paint over it and pick another design.
I love paint!

Now, if only I could remember where I put those paint brushes.

Happy weekend.
