There's A Lazy Boy in My Bathroom

This remodel has finally invaded the whole house.
We had to empty the new bedroom to stain and poly the floors.

It has officially gotten crazy here.
There is a lazy boy in my bathroom.

I kid you not.

And a shop vac in my bathtub.

All so we could finish the floors.

New entrance through Mr. M.'s closet and new hallway.

We put a new entrance through Mr. M.'s closet, now his clothes are in our bedroom, the hallway, the bathroom and my daughter's room.

We, meaning I, decided to change the color of the stain for our new bedroom.
I freaked out on poor Mr. M.
I think I might have even screamed.
IT'S PURPLE!

OH MY GOD!

Thank goodness we were only in my closet and we had only just started putting the stain on.
I don't like it!

Far doors are entrance to his and her closets.

Mr. M. gave me a look of what now.

I went and got the original stain we have in the rest of the house and put some down next to the new stain.
Mmmm, not so different.
Of course the lighting wasn't helping.
We have not put up any lights yet and we were working with one of those blinding spot lights.
And it was 7:00 at night, with no natural light.

I kept pacing back and forth, saying it looks purple.
What do you think?  I asked him a million times.
Then he wiped off more stain.
Oh.
Well, maybe not so purple now.
I asked again, "do you like it?"
"Can't see it from my closet." He says.

We did the whole closet and let it sit overnight.

Then we did his closet.
I asked him a few hundred more times if he liked it.
Mr. M. responded with, "what am I supposed to say, no.  I'm not changing it now."
Just great.

We did the whole room.

No purple.
Darker.
Just how I wanted it.
I love it.

We are putting a second coat of poly on tonight.
Next week the work goes into over drive.

Install chandeliers.
Final coat of paint on walls.
Start putting up window, ceiling and door trim.
Install dryer and washer in laundry room.
Install closet systems.
And.....
The list goes on...........

We are hoping to be in the room and have my youngest son's room almost complete by Christmas.

It is amazing how far we have come in only a few months since we started putting up the drywall in July.

After these rooms are done Mr. M. says he is sitting his butt down and relaxing until spring.

Then we have the monster garage to finish.

Our little guy is turning 7 this week so we are going to take a break from working and celebrate.
Cake and family.

Thanks for dropping by and have a wonderful week.

In Case You Thought I Dissapeared

I didn't.
I took a sick week.
Me.
The kids.

No not Mr. M.
Although, I did threaten to lick him.

It all started last Saturday, such a wonderful day off with lots of plans.
But, not for a sick child.
The little guy came down with the flu first.
OK, I can handle this, give him some Tylenol, a comfy spot on the couch and a day of rest and movies.
The older kids were enjoying the day of leisure.

What were Mr. M. and I doing?
Glad you asked.
The angels sing as we ripped out the carpeting in the office and laid the new pine floor all in one day.
In between gluing and screwing.....I made sure the little guy was doing OK.

We were able to finish getting the floors in and Mr. M. planned on picking up the sander on Sunday to finish the job.
Then it happened, the unthinkable.
I GOT SICK!

No...............this can not happen, I have too much to do.

Buggers.

I spent the day on the couch with the little guy while Mr. M. did the work.

I wish I could have stayed at home Monday too, but alas I had to go to work because my job has a odd way of dealing with sick days.
Mr. M. stayed home with one sick child, but as the day progressed he ended up with all three children home sick.  Good thing I was going to have the next three days off.

The floor, each day I would look at it almost done.
Not forgotten, just put off.

Till TODAY!

As I type, Mr. M. is finishing up the stain.
Then we are going out for lunch because it smells.

Funny, the room looks smaller without any furniture in it.
Tomorrow we will put a couple of coats of poly on.
During the week we will put 2 more coats of poly on and I will repaint the walls and trim.
Then comes the fun part of  deciding what goes back into the room.

When we finished the living room, not all the furniture made it back in.
I must say I am doing well will the less cluttered look.
BUT, the basement seems to have some extra furniture now.

I hope you are all well and have a great weekend.

New Floor Love!

The floor is in and we just love it.

Mr. M. stayed home Wednesday and laid down the Southern Pine
with our nephew helping, or the other way around.
Due to having in floor radiant heating, they had to glue and top screw in the wood.

Friday I came home from work to find it all stained, boy did it stink.
Saturday and Sunday we put several coats of poly on.

If the room did not flow into the already stained hallway, I might have tried to just sand and wax.
This is how I plan on leaving the upstairs bedrooms.
The lighter floor will look nice against the darker walls.

Fresh laid pine flooring before stain.

Newly stained floors.

We both love the look of the wood against white walls.
I can only imagine how good it is going to look with all the slip covered furniture.

As you can see the walls need some touch ups.
We also still have to put the quarter round back on.

Although this picture is a little fuzzy and on the red side.
I wanted to show you the transition from the old wood to the new wood.
The new wood is a little on the lighter side, however the hallway has been re-stained in the past few years.
The old wood has lots of wear and tear from children, animals and just plain old 15 years of use.

We couldn't be any happier with the way it turned out.
The wood we used is Southern Pine from Lumber Liquidators.
The price is right and we were able to order on line and pick up the next day.

In fact, we are so happy that we plan on redoing the upstairs hallway and all of the bedrooms in the same wood.

This week I am painting the living room, both the walls and trim, same color, still love my white.
Then over next weekend we can move in all of the furniture and put up the big Christmas tree.

What a wonderful project this has turned out to be.
What a wonderful Christmas we gave ourselves and our home.
