A Productive Busy Week

We have been on Spring break.
School and work both start again on Monday.
Although it has only been a week, it feels like a month.

Do you know how to make time seem like it is never going to end.
Spend it with children.
They enjoy each and every second.

Our busy week was packed with;
 A little Princess turning 9.

The guy.  So now her brothers can play too!

Someone was super surprised with her birthday presents.

Easter.

Work on staining and polyurethaning floors.
Shopping trips.
Bike rides.
Jack vs. the Giants movie.
Movie night.
Splash Lagoon.........

Shopping trip in Pittsburgh...IKEA!!!!
Lunches and dinners out every day for the last three days.

So, what am I doing today, my last day of vacation.

Starting the finishing touches on a little girls room.

The floors turned out great.
Although, I do think I like the dark stain better.
We decided to leave these floors plain.
It makes it easier if in the future we want to add color to a teenager's room.

We only have to put the trim back on.
Paint the walls the same soft lavender.
Paint all floor, ceiling and window trim.
Hang the new chandelier.
Find a rug.
Put furniture back in.

But first, I am painting the rug in the hallway so we can finish the upstairs hallway.

With these colors.

And finishing up the dinning room chairs.

I was able to get them all painted in between activities.
Now I only have two to stain and wax.....then slipcovers.

After I have my special breakfast.
This guy knows how to make his family feel special.
We each had our own pancake.

These should give me enough energy to do some tracing and painting.

How about you?
Did you take a Spring Break with your kids?
Did you go anywhere special or finish any projects?

Purple for a Little Girl

Now that the study room floor is done, we are on to the next project.
Wood is ordered.
And waiting patiently in the hallway.
Old carpeting is ripped up.

Most of the furniture is out.
The big iron beast is last to go.

A little girl is excited because her room is next on the list.
We want the room to be able to transition into a teen room with minor changes.
She is excited to be having her own little slumber party in the basement while we work on her floor.

I was surprised when I showed her this picture and she loved the bedding.
Her room is already painted a very pale purple.
My plan is to keep the color just paint another coat to make it clean and fresh again, and of course all of the trim will be repainted white again.

I am on the look out for a chair to slipcover.
A new/used desk and desk chair.
They will be painted dark purple.

The wood floor will not be stained, we will only put couple coats of poly on, so if we change our minds and want to paint a pattern we can.

We are still looking for a rug that will bring all of the room colors together.

Then comes the hallway.
I still love my painted walls so I will be staining the floor same as the downstairs floors.

Then, the boys room.

Cue the Jaws music.

Two boys=
Lots of Legos.

On With the Decorating

Bringing back the Christmas spirit.

The floors are done!
LOVE IT!

I knew the new floor was going to look great with my slipcovered furniture

I spent most of the weekend painting walls and trim.
Once I had that paint brush in my hand I just wanted to keep going.
If there wasn't a holiday coming up to get ready for, this whole house would have gotten painted.
I had forgotten how easy it is to paint trim when you don't have to tape first.

The final tree is up in the living room.
This tree has so many lights I actually had a Griswold moment, bamm no more lights.
I blew the fuse in one of the extension cords.
I fixed the fuse, rearranged some of the plugs and now it is just beautiful.
I don't think you could fit another ornament on it.

That makes a grand total of ............
12 trees

I love this big silver bowl filled with a mix of vintage ornaments on the coffee table.
I have not finished decorating but at least now most of the furniture is back in the living room and we can walk into the dinning room.

Thank you for all your kind words.
It was a rough weekend for Mr. M. and reading them meant a lot.

I hope everyone is enjoying getting their trees decorated, making cookies and all the fun to be had at this time of the year.
Oh, if you have any extra snow, send it our way........this is Buffalo and we got NO SNOW!

Save the Decorating for Another Day

Just when I thought it was safe to bring down ALL of the Christmas decoration boxes.
THE FLOOR WOOD HAS BEEN DELIVERED!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, this weekend instead of putting up the living room Christmas tree.
We moved furniture and ripped up old carpeting.
As much as I know how much hard work is in store for us.

I CAN'T WAIT!

Mr. M. is at Home Depot right now picking up the glue.
We don't waste time.
Today he and I will get a big jump on laying down as much of the wood as we can.
I thought it would take longer to get started, but he is as excited as I am.
We had almost the whole room empty and the old carpeting out by noon on Saturday.

Not much left to do, move the plant, vacuum the floor.

We only have the pine armoire to move today.

Soon the living room will look just as good as the hallway and dinning room do.

Thank goodness I have most of my Christmas shopping done.
Because I will need the time to be sawing and sanding and screwing and staining.

Hopefully we will have this done in two weeks to give me plenty of time to finish decorating for Christmas.

This is the best Christmas present ever!
Well, almost, we got engaged on Christmas 14 years ago.

I hope you had a great weekend too!

Messing With His Head

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
The kids and I did some Christmas shopping.
Watched a new Christmas movie to get them in the spirit.
Put up a tree or two.

This morning the kids helped me take the Christmas storage buckets out of the attic so I could start decorating.

But!
I kind of wanted to wait and see if I could talk Mr. M. into putting in the wood floors in the living room.

So..................

I called him this morning, he has been out of town for the last 4 days.
I wanted to let the kids talk to him before school.
After they were done talking.  I nonchalantly asked him, "so, how mad would you be if I started taking up the carpeting?"  You see, he knows I want to put in wood floors in the living room and study.
"Why?  What have you done?  Where are you working?"
"Oh, I was just kind of wondering.  I hope you have a great day love, miss you."

hehehehehe

He knows.
I think in the back of his mind, he wonders.
WHAT IS SHE GOING TO DO WHILE I AM GONE!
Maybe I have done things in the past while he is gone.
Maybe or maybe not.

I left the conversation like that.
He called back a couple of hours later.
"So, what are you doing?"  "Nothing, why?"  "Have you really started taking up the carpet?"
"Only a little."
"Where?"
"The office."  "Why there, the carpet looks the best in that room?"
You see, I have the next three days off, work Friday and then the weekend off again.
I want to get the floors finished so I can do my Christmas decorating.

I kind of have it in my head to get this done before the holidays and once the idea is there, I will get obsessed with it until it is done.

I can see it from his point of view too.
You see, we also are working on the master bedroom/garage addition.
But, in my defense, we have been working on that for the past 4 years and we probably are not going to work on it much over the winter.
BECAUSE IT IS SO STINKING COLD IN THOSE ROOMS!

Why not work on a room that we can finish in a week or two.
It really is that simple.
In my mind.

Oh, I know there is work, school, home work, pies and Christmas decorating and shopping.
But can't that wait for just one long week?

Pine floors against white walls.
Beautiful.

It all started here.
You see, I showed him this view of the basement last week.
It is my favorite room right now.
I know our living room can look just as beautiful.

I think I might just call him back and ask.
"On a scale of 1 - 10 how mad would you be?"
I know, bad, so bad.
He will be home tonight, but that might make him get home a little quicker.

This might just put me on Santa's naughty list.

What would you do?
