Blue for a Day!

Hello, and how are you?

I wish I could say I have been busy creating, but no, I was sick, the kids were sick.
So there was a lot of couch time.

I did manage to visit TJ Maxx, one of my favorite shops before I was sick.

Everywhere I look there is blue, on the pillows, in the painting, the rugs, clothing, accessories.

BLUE!

You may have read that I am not normally a blue person, even though I do enjoy seeing it in other people's homes.

BUT, I just kept seeing blue, maybe I was changing my mind.
We girls are allowed to do that!

So I bought beautiful blue Ralph Lauren pillows.

They look great in the dinning room.

A beautiful picture of blue hydrangeas for the wall.

NO!
no
no
I
just
can't
do
it!

Today I am taking them all back.

No one can say that I didn't try.

But, I think I may just keep these.

These napkins I found that almost match perfectly the fabric I bought last year to use in the shed.  Well I could not bring myself to use it yet and now I might just try to make a few pillows, small ones.  Baby steps.

I have a feeling I will always try to work a little blue into my home, but I can hear my sister in my ear.
But you don't like blue.

A girl can try can't she!

How about you?
Is there a color you love when you see it in magazines or blogs and then try in your own home and know it just will not work?

I'm so BLUE..................

  1. Alaina,

I liked the blue pillows against your white slip covered chair. The colors I won't be using for a long time inside my home are yellow and jade; not because I don't like them but because the previous owner painted every wall yellow (with the exception of a few that were wall papered) and every piece of trim (as well as kitchen cabinets) jade.

  3. Hey you funny girl...I am like that with the whole grey thing going on right now. I have tried and tried, but it just doesn't do it for me. But I LOVE it when others do it so well. I adore all the Jeanne d'Arc, but I just can't live with it myself. But oh do I love the magazine!
So sorry to hear you've been sick!
    sending hugs...

  4. I can TOTALLY relate! I don't like blue either but I am drawn to it and right now I'm contemplating painting my livingroom the palest blue/grey!! Am I insane?!?!?

I don't like pink either but I painted my livingroom, 12 yrs. ago, the palest pink and liked it. It was that way for YEARS! HA.

At least we can laugh at ourselves as we continue to try.

  5. Hi Alaina, glad you all are over the sickies. And I hear you about blue. I'm just not a blue person, ok, maybe in small, very small amounts. I think it's because I gravitate to the warmer colors, and I'm just not a "cool" pastel person usually. so I know where you're coming from. But I have to tell ya, loved those pillows in your chair. They look wonderful!! xoxo Debra

  6. Oh Alaina your post was soooooooooooo me.
I would have taken them back. so many times I have tried to "BE" something I am not. But I guess you (we) have to figure that out.

It is so tempting, with all the eye candy to stay true to what we like.....that is why I go in so many phases with my decorating...I still have not figured it out!

  7. LOL! I just took all the blue out of my dinning room. I tried to make it work because my son bought me blue and white S&P shakers. I lived with it for several years but I just can't do it any more!

It's too bad our only bathroom is filled with light blue tile. I would love to replace it! But a bathroom reno isnt' in the budget.

    Glad you're feeling better.

  8. I liked the blues in your home, but I think you just get that feeling inside when you know it's not a good fit. I am not a red person. Can't wear it and don't like it in my home. Christmas is difficult!

Hope this finds you feeling better!

    XO,
    Jane

  9. well, as far as colours go, I lean toward the cooler colours like blue and lavender and pink when I'm doing my garden, but I always covet the oranges, reds and yellows of the more adventurous gardener. Still, I gravitate to the same colours. As far as blue is concerned, those pillows you bought were yummo.

  10. Love the peaceful calm over here girl!
Your blue is perfect, it falls into the gray tones so you are so safe in my book! I hope the blue cheered you up, its no fun being sick!!
I am busy getting all the loose ends done so I can rest with Easter!

I am dying egges to look like the stripes on French linens :)

I love your house and there is not a thing you could bring to it that would effect it in a bad way! Perfectly imperfect!

    xoxo
