Saturday was a day of walking.
My extended family met for a picnic and the day at Letchworth State Park in New York.
It has been 11 years since we have been back, I forgot how wonderful it is.
The only thing that would make this even more beautiful would be if more of the leaves had changed colors already. This picture would be awash of oranges, reds, yellows, browns and greens.
Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests.
Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. I borrowed that from their website.
I must say my body felt like we did all that walking but we didn't.
This is a view of the top where our family was picnicing. Down there on that flat area, yeah we walked all the way down the cliff to get over to there and we kept walking.
We did this twice, yep, my legs are sore.
The leaves were starting to change colors.
This was at the end of our trail, just beautiful.
But then we had to go back UP!
The going up seemed to take a lot longer than the going down!
My kids had a good time, although we had to get them off the rock walls a few times.
They just did quite get the fact we were so far up and how dangerous it really could be.
My son had so much fun catching dragon flies.
Mr. M. has shown interest in taking some road trip vacations but has a hard time thinking about all the noise in the van for more than the hour and 1/2 it took to get to this park.
It takes HOW LONG to get to the Grand Cannon?
He says he will have to THINK about it.
Sunday was a day of resting.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend too!
What a great family photo!
ReplyDeleteYou know, my dad keeps insisting that we must all go to this very park, but I still have to get my passport! Waaa! Looked fantastic. I love this time of year.
Your family looks GREAT.
ReplyDeleteI love that you showed us all some of where you live. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to the east coast and need some lessons.
I am glad you had fun! I am also glad you or your children did not fall off some cliffs. They looked scary!
Thank you for this beautiful walk !!..happy new week darling...hugs and love Ria...
ReplyDeleteAlaina,
ReplyDeleteI am adding this park to our autumn to do list. It is breathtaking. I can only imagine it at the peak of the season. You should enlarge and frame that family portrait.
Your Friend,
Deborah
PS Best remedy for those tired muscles -- more walking!
What a beautiful park. The photo of the waterfall is gorgeous. Glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful day. That water fall would make it all worth while, for certain. I love walks like that, we did several of those while on our vacation this summer.
