Happy 4th Of July

Happy 4th of July.

Today we celebrate my son's birthday.

 Happy Birthday Chase!

Happy birthday to my son.
12
He is a firecracker.
Too much like his mother.
We butt heads all the time.
Neither of us is one to back down.
But
We are quick to say sorry.
Easy to make friends.

He loves bugs, frogs, snakes, turtles and anything that crawls, jumps and hops.

Make sure to stop over Saturday to Must Love Junk I am being featured in Susan's
Saturday Spotlight; Life Behind the Blogger.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July.

Better Than a Rock Star

This weekend we celebrated my husband's fire company field days.
It is something we look forward to each year.

Great food.
Fire truck parade.
Fried dough.

If you are lucky you might get to meet your hero.

I was sitting at a table in the fire hall waiting for Mr. M. to get ready to go home.
My oldest son Chase ran up to me.
He had a look on his face like he had seen a super star.

Like Justin Bieber, maybe.

No, even better.

"MOM," he said, "I am sitting next to THE DEPUTY SHERIFF!"

Story of picture found here.

The pure excitement on his face.
Well I had to do something about this.
I grabbed Mr. M. and told him to introduce his son to the Deputy.
Mr. M. and the deputy went to school together when they were kids.

Mr. M. introduced the Deputy to all three of our children.
You could just see the joy on Chase's face.

I was standing behind my son when he shook the deputy's hand.
With a grin so large on his face, he turned to me and said, " I am never washing my hand again."

Such a special comment, I could not keep it to myself.

I told the Deputy what my son had said.

He needed to know.

He needed to know he was my son's hero.

Not a rock star.
Not a sports star.
Not a movie star.

Even better.

A man who risks his life every day to protect those around him.

A Deputy Sheriff.

A 4th Birthday

My oldest son turned

10

on
the
4th
of
July

My little baseball player is growing up.

He played his last baseball game on Thursday.

This look says it all.

He really is a sweet kid.

They ended the celebration with sparklers.

A wonderful day for sure.

I have not been able to blog as much as would have liked to.
I feel as if I am on a speeding freight train, and I really wanted to get off, too fast for me.

Now that we are only going to be going to baseball two days a week and there are no more large events to prepare for I can start to relax and enjoy my days.

Don't worry though, I have been swimming with the kids and taking time to read a few pages of magazines here and there.  It's just that I am a stay at home, putter around the house and gardens kind of gal.  All this rush here and there is just a little too much.

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!

The Boy Draws AGAIN

I wrote a post last year HERE about my oldest son and his drawing.
He still is.
And
He is getting even better at it.

A couple of weeks ago, while in the garage puttering around, my son drew a picture on a piece of wood.  Knowing the wood was going to be painted, I asked my son to redraw the picture for me again on paper.  But, this time he drew in marker and not pencil and it did not have the details, so I kind of forgot about it.
Well, the following weekend said boy was grounded in his room, too many misbehavior's in school.

A little time away from Saturday morning cartoons brought out the creativity in him.

He brought down a whole page of ALIENS.

(hey Sara, did you notice he spells as good as his mother)

These new pictures have depth that none of his other pictures have had before.
He is learning and teaching himself how to draw better.
I can guarantee you, he is not learning this in 4th grade art.

YES, my son is only 9 years old.

I know I can't.
How about you?
Can you draw better than a fourth grader?

He is now working on a project for a school competition about diversity.
At the request of his art teacher.

He has told me that he wants to work for George Lucas and create new Star Wars figures.
I told him that is a good plan.
BUT, he has to pass fourth grade and pay attention in school first.

I am not too worried about him.
I have a feeling he is going to be just fine.
